For decades, organic lipophilic compounds have been used as crop protection agents, pest control compounds and pesticides. Therefore, they represent a threat to humans. Lipophilic contamination may be removed with substances such as methylenchloride, chloroform, or hexane. However, these substances are  toxic as well as being detrimental to the environment and involving high risks for human beings.
